Mayor Nick Sacco, Township Commissioners Frank Gargiulo, Theresa Ferraro, Hugo Cabrera and Allen Pascual and Library Director Sai Rao and many other officials joined together with community members for a Grand Opening event on September 21 at the new location, which is located at 2123 Kennedy Boulevard.

NORTH BERGEN HOLDS ANNUAL SENIOR CITIZEN PICNIC

IMG_4386c.jpgMayor Nick Sacco, members of the Board of Commissioners and other officials welcomed over 1,000 North Bergen seniors to the township’s annual Senior Citizen Picnic yesterday, Septeber 18. The event was held at Schuetzen Park Banquet Hall in North Bergen. The township holds the annual event, which began in 1992, as a way to honor senior citizens and thank them for their contributions to North Bergen. Seniors are treated to free refreshments, music, dancing and more.

MOODY’S REAFFIRMS NORTH BERGEN’S EXCELLENT AA3 BOND RATING, CITES TOWNSHIP’S ‘PRUDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM’

03.27.14_blog.jpgMoody’s Investors Service released a report last week reaffirming North Bergen’s excellent Aa3 bond rating and crediting Mayor Nick Sacco’s administration’s handling of township finances. The rating applies to the township and the North Bergen Municipal Utilities Authority’s debt obligations, which have consistently dropped over the last ten years. Moody’s specifically pointed to North Bergen’s leadership, crediting it as a “prudent management team” and also mentioned its “sizeable tax base with proximity to New York City” and “strong current fund reserves.”

SACCO INTRODUCES “ANGELIE’S LAW”

IMG_2697.jpgSenator Nick Sacco has introduced legislation to increase the oversight and regulation of commuter vans, often known as jitney buses, in response to a horrific accident that caused the death of Angelie Paredes, an eight-month-old infant from North Bergen. “Angelie’s Law” contains many reforms aimed at improving safety for pedestrians, commuters and all residents of areas where the vans operate. Senator Sacco has been working closely with Assembly members Vincent Prieto and Angelica Jimenez (D-Hudson, Bergen) to identify workable reforms that will enhance public safety. The bill expands on earlier legislation introduced by Assemblyman Charles Mainor (D-Hudson) that focused on insurance and other regulatory requirements. Mainor, Prieto and Jimenez are the sponsors of the companion Assembly bill. The Senate bill was introduced yesterday.

SACCO AND LOCAL LEADERS DEMAND STRICTER REGULATION FOR COMMUTER BUSES

IMG_2697.jpgNorth Bergen Mayor and State Senator Nicholas Sacco joined with local, state and federal officials to call for stricter regulation of commuter buses at a press conference Tuesday morning. Held at the spot where eight month old North Bergen resident Angelie Paredes was killed by an out of control jitney bus last week, the event featured several local leaders demanding harsher penalties, stricter regulation and more accountability for the commuter buses and vans. Sacco moderated the discussion and was joined by U.S. Representative Albio Sires,  Assembly members Vincent Prieto, Angelica Jimenez and Charles Mainor, West New York Mayor Felix Roque and Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari, along with other local elected officials.

SACCO RELEASES PLAN TO IMPROVE PUBLIC SAFETY AFTER FATAL BUS ACCIDENT

In the wake of the tragic accident that claimed the life of eight month old North Bergen resident Angelie Parades, Mayor and State Senator Nick Sacco is outlining a plan that he believes will improve public safety and crack down on jitney buses in Hudson County. Sacco has long been a proponent of increased scrutiny on the commuter vans, which have proliferated in northern Hudson County in the last several years and present many public dangers.

FIRST EVER NORTH BERGEN BUSINESS OUTREACH FORUM DRAWS CROWD OF BUSINESS OWNERS TO TOWNSHIP HALL

Township Administrator Chris Pianese led the forum, which addressed topics like the Urban Enterprise Zone program, updates on township projects, using the township website to promote local businesses, public safety issues and much more. Business owners and representatives were given the opportunity to meet township officials, network with each other and fill out a survey to share their opinions on various subjects related to doing business in the township.
