Mayor Sacco swears in seven new NBPD recruits, promotes officer to sergeant

IMG_7423smc_crop.jpgMayor Nick Sacco, Public Safety Commissioner Theresa Ferraro and North Bergen Police Chief Robert Dowd conducted a swearing in ceremony last week welcoming seven new recruits to the department. The ceremony, which was held on January 10th in the Commission Chambers of Township Hall, also included the promotion of Officer Jason Torres to the rank of Sergeant. Five of the recruits are now attending the John Stamler Police Academy in Union County for training, while two who formerly served as Hudson County Sheriff’s Officers are already in uniform working to keep North Bergen safe.

“I am very proud to welcome these new recruits to our already outstanding police department,” said Mayor Sacco. “Keeping North Bergen safe for our residents is one of my administration’s highest priorities and we have made an ironclad commitment to making sure that our police department has all the manpower and resources it needs to excel.”

The new recruits are: Wilbert Negron and William Brown, who formerly served as Sheriff’s Officers, and Katrina Guillen, Mark Masella, Jeffery Gonzalez, Jessica Toro and Sean Rahbari, who are attending the academy. Each of the new officers are North Bergen residents.

“The level of commitment and support Mayor Sacco and the Commissioners have given to the North Bergen Police Department is simply incredible,” said Chief Dowd. “We have hired 27 new officers since 2012, bolstering our ranks and letting us not only investigate crime but proactively deter it. I expect these new officers to be an excellent addition to an already high performing department.”
