    Sacco Team Board of Education Candidates are Announced

    BOE_Ticket_2015.jpgMayor Nick Sacco is announcing his support for the "Our Children First 2015" ticket for the upcoming North Bergen Board of Education Election, featuring longtime Board Trustee Ruth Shaw and newcomers Sam Jaafar and Claudia Rodriguez. Shaw, Jaafar and Rodriguez will be running in the April 21 School Board election in ballot positions 4, 9 and 11. The ticket includes two women and the first Arab-American candidate for local office. 

    "This School Board ticket represents the diversity that makes North Bergen such a dynamic place and it features three candidates with strong ties to our community who care deeply about public education," said Mayor Sacco. "I am proud to support Ruth, Sam and Claudia and look forward to working with them."

    Sacco Team Re-Election Kickoff Rally Draws Massive Crowd of Over 1,200 Supporters

    Mayor Nick Sacco and his team kicked off their campaign with a massive show of support last night at their Re-Election Kickoff Rally. Well over 1,200 supporters packed the Schuetzen Park Catering Hall in North 
    Bergen, along with political leaders from Hudson County and throughout the state all together for one reason -- to show their support for Four More Years of the Sacco Team. Mayor Sacco and his Commission Team of Hugo Cabrera, Frank Gargiulo, Allen Pascual and Julio Marenco were cheered wildly by the enormous crowd of North Bergen residents and supporters and will now begin their door-to-door campaign from now right up until May 12. 

    "This rally was packed from wall to wall and the outpouring of support we received from so many friends and neighbors who see the progress our community has made and the bright future ahead was truly inspiring," said Mayor Sacco. "I would like to thank everyone who attended for their support and make them a promise that we will work harder than ever to earn every vote we can here in North Bergen and roll to victory on May 12."

    In addition to the Sacco Team, the event was attended by political leaders from throughout Hudson County and New Jersey. They

    North Bergen Mayor Nick Sacco announces Julio Marenco as Candidate for Township Commissioner

    IMG_5186sm.jpgMayor Nick Sacco has announced that Board of Education President Julio Marenco will be joining his ticket in the upcoming May municipal election. Marenco, a North Bergen resident for over 25 years, is an appointed Associate Member of the State Parole Board, holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Seton Hall University School of Law and works as an Adjunct Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Marenco will be running for the seat that will be vacated by Public Safety Commissioner Theresa Ferraro, who announced her retirement at the end of her current term onFriday. He will be joined on the ticket by Mayor Sacco and incumbent Commissioners Hugo Cabrera, Frank Gargiulo and Allen Pascual, which makes the slate majority Hispanic for the first time. 

    "Julio Marenco is an outstanding public servant who will bring a wealth of experience to our ticket and eventually to the Board of Commissioners and I am thrilled that he is joining us," said Mayor Sacco. "I have known Julio for many years and he has been a great asset to our organization. Julio is ready for this new responsibility and he will make an excellent representative of the people of North Bergen as a Commissioner."

    North Bergen Commissioner Theresa Ferraro will not seek re-election, plans to retire at end of term

    MG_0009.jpgAfter a groundbreaking, illustrious career serving the people of North Bergen, Commissioner Theresa Ferraro is announcing today that she will not seek re-election this year and plans to retire from elected office at the conclusion of her current term. The first woman elected as a township commissioner in 1999, Ferraro has presided over the North Bergen Police Department as Public Safety Commissioner and watched it grow into one of the most effective and diverse police units in the country. She has also been a tireless advocate for senior citizens, supporting many important programs and initiatives like North Bergen’s Senior Citizen’s Picnic and other activities.
