    North Bergen Mayor Nick Sacco announces Julio Marenco as Candidate for Township Commissioner

    IMG_5186sm.jpgMayor Nick Sacco has announced that Board of Education President Julio Marenco will be joining his ticket in the upcoming May municipal election. Marenco, a North Bergen resident for over 25 years, is an appointed Associate Member of the State Parole Board, holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Seton Hall University School of Law and works as an Adjunct Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Marenco will be running for the seat that will be vacated by Public Safety Commissioner Theresa Ferraro, who announced her retirement at the end of her current term onFriday. He will be joined on the ticket by Mayor Sacco and incumbent Commissioners Hugo Cabrera, Frank Gargiulo and Allen Pascual, which makes the slate majority Hispanic for the first time. 

    "Julio Marenco is an outstanding public servant who will bring a wealth of experience to our ticket and eventually to the Board of Commissioners and I am thrilled that he is joining us," said Mayor Sacco. "I have known Julio for many years and he has been a great asset to our organization. Julio is ready for this new responsibility and he will make an excellent representative of the people of North Bergen as a Commissioner."

    North Bergen Commissioner Theresa Ferraro will not seek re-election, plans to retire at end of term

    MG_0009.jpgAfter a groundbreaking, illustrious career serving the people of North Bergen, Commissioner Theresa Ferraro is announcing today that she will not seek re-election this year and plans to retire from elected office at the conclusion of her current term. The first woman elected as a township commissioner in 1999, Ferraro has presided over the North Bergen Police Department as Public Safety Commissioner and watched it grow into one of the most effective and diverse police units in the country. She has also been a tireless advocate for senior citizens, supporting many important programs and initiatives like North Bergen’s Senior Citizen’s Picnic and other activities.

    North Bergen celebrates National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day by honoring officers, applauding community engagement

    IMG_4790sm.jpgHighlighting acts of bravery, heroism and diligence performed by North Bergen Police Officers and recognizing the department’s commitment to community engagement and diversity, Mayor Nick Sacco and the township celebrated national “Law Enforcement Appreciation Day” with a ceremony today. Police Chief Robert Dowd served as master of ceremonies and presided as several proclamations and awards were distributed to highly deserving officers, including the department’s “Officer of the Year,” at the event which was held in the township’s commission chambers in front of local officials, members of the police department, friends and family members.
